Gum Disease Did you know that…
- At least 80% of the population has some degree of gum disease
and 75% of adult tooth loss is caused by this condition
- Gum disease has been linked to conditions such as heart disease,
stroke, diabetes, pre-mature births, and low birth weight
- Gum disease is an infection of the gums and jawbones and the bacteria
and chemical by-products that the body uses to fight these bacteria
can enter the blood stream and cause serious problems in distant
parts of the body
Unfortunately, the untrained eye cannot notice the warning signs
of gum disease. A dentist or hygienist must do a thorough and
complete examination to detect it, especially in its early stages.
Gum disease
is similar to high blood pressure or heart disease - by the time
symptoms are noticed by patients, it is in an advanced stage.
For these reasons, it’s important to have regular cleanings
and examinations. We offer the following to help our patients in this area:
- Charting and Diagnostic Services
- In Office Therapy
-
Arestin Antibiotic Gel - a deep cleaning agent that’s
placed in the
gum pockets and around the teeth to further combat bacteria\
- Oraqix
- this is a topical anesthetic we use during gum cleaning…the
benefit to you? It replaces the shot and the numb feeling goes away
much more quickly than with the conventional shot.
